Dear Parents,
Research
shows, time and again, that active children are more alert, do better in school
and live longer, healthier lives. At a time when obesity is an epidemic in our
nation, it is important to stress to our children the significant role physical
activity plays in maintaining health. I am excited to share a fitness calendar
with you to help your children find fun, creative ways to be active at home. The calendars are designed to be used as
a source of fitness development and to enhance students’ fitness levels. I am
trying to provide the children with lifelong activity patterns. Instilling this
critical message at an early age, and making fitness fun, will help develop a
love of physical activity that will stay with your children throughout their
lives. I want to encourage physical activity to the students on a daily basis,
and add in activity at home.
The
“physical fitness fun calendar” is a perfect way for your family to establish
healthy exercise habits at home. Calendars will be given out and collected at
the end of each month. Your child will be asked to read the calendar with you
to see what activity he/she needs to accomplish that day. After the activity
has been completed, please place a check in the appropriate box. (Activities
can be modified if play space is unavailable or weather is inclement.) If there
is a time restraint or weather is a factor, please feel free to flip flop days
if need be. Students will be expected to perform at their own level. My goal is
to help each student strive for and recognize gains in his or her fitness
level.
A
commitment to daily physical activity, lifelong physical fitness and a diet
that includes plenty of grains, fruits, and vegetables is the best investment
that you and your family can make for good health. Please sign the completed
calendar at the end of the month and students will return it for a special
reward.
Fun
and fitness,
Ms. Cavallo
